Mary Clarissa Power (nee Doody) July 17, 1933 – February 20, 2021 Of Jerseyside, formerly of Duricle, Burin, passed peacefully away at the Placentia Health Centre on February 20, 2021 at 2:05am. “Grace” as she was affectionately called by her family, was a proud wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt. Her family was her life, and she devoted herself whole-heartedly to their upbringing and their well-being. As a cook at the Placentia Cottage Hospital for over twenty years, many grand old tales were rehashed when she and her co-workers got together. Their job at the hospital was their social life and although they worked hard, the laughs they shared made the work more enjoyable. Her childhood home of Duricle was never far from her mind, and many stories were also told of the happy times spent by her brothers, sister and cousins growing up there. To her children, her very name CLARISSA denotes a person who is: Capable, Lovable, Accommodating, Responsible, Irreplaceable, Sociable, Sensitive, Approachable. To all who opened her door, whether friend or stranger, her home “on the bit” welcomed all – many a cup of tea and a piece were shared. No one ever left with an empty stomach and usually a doggie bag of cakes, cookies, bread, or other treats were given for the road. Clarissa was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Michael T. Power; daughters Rita and Pauline, her parents – Ellen and Thomas Doody, brothers James (Jenny), Leo (Annie), Dan (Elizabeth), Lester (Sadie), Joe, Phonse (Hilda) and sister Rita. Leaving to mourn are her daughters Stella (Stan), Ellen (Derm), sons Jerome (Debbie), Joe (Laura), Tom (Anna), Lester (Valerie), Danny (Florence) and her brother Leonard (Elizabeth-dearest friend),Don (son-in-law) and Agnes (sister-in-law) Grandchildren: Jennifer, Nicole, Daniel, Deanna, Jillian, Dawn Marie, Mark, Alex, Samantha, and Freddie. Great-grandchildren: Karley, Devin, Daniel, Kian, Nixon, Jayden, Charlee, Daniel, Adalyn, Aliyah, Alexis, Alivia. She will be lovingly remembered by a huge number of extended family and friends and will live forever in the hearts and minds of those who provided care within her own home for the past seven years, especially Betty O’Rielly and Lisa King; to whom we will be forever grateful for their love and kindness. A happy woman is one who has no cares at all. A cheerful woman is one who has cares but doesn’t let them get her down. Our mother was a cheerful woman. PRIVATE FAMILY VIEWING ONLY Cremation will take place, inurnment at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Placentia Due to the ongoing COVID-19 Public Health Emergency, public visitations are not permitted.
