Obituary of Kevin Tobin

Please share a memory of Kevin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, Kevin. He passed away peacefully on September 3rd, 2024, at the outstanding age of 94. Kevin (Dad) will be welcomed with open arms and smiles by his wife Bridget and his parents Lucy and James. He is predeceased by his siblings: Frank, Michael, Brendan, Leonard, Madeline, Gerard, Lena and Katherine, along with in-laws Donnie & Jane McGrath, Wishie McGrath and Jim Isbell; they will have many stories to reminisce about. Kevin is also predeceased by his daughter-in-law Charmaine Young who always made sure he was well fed. Kevin was born in Ship Cove, Placentia Bay. When he was in his early twenties, he joined the Canadian Armed Forces and later returned to Newfoundland to begin his career with the Department of Transportation. He moved to Patrick’s Cove in 1965 and together with his beloved wife, Bridgie, they raised their family with love and support. Kevin will be sadly missed by his 8 children of whom he was so proud of in many different ways: Jerome (Brenda), Raymond (Annie), Gordon, Kevin, Randy, Eric, Anita, and Rosanne (Harvey). Kevin loved and treasured his grandchildren and has left them all with fond memories: Christopher, Melissa, Nancy, Holly, Matthew, Timothy, Cara, Crystal, Jonathan, Stephanie, Daniel, Jonathon, Sheldon, Emma, Kevin, Ashleigh, and Neil. Kevin also had numerous great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart. To all of you mentioned above, remember that Pop/Uncle Kevin spoke very highly about each one of you. Many happy memories were shared with his in-laws Francis & Francina McGrath and Ellie Isbell. Special mention of thank you to: Beth Pittman who has been Kevin’s closest friend for the last number of years. Robert McGrath and Bill Bragg for your many drop-ins, checking on Kevin, and sharing many laughs with him. To his special niece, Susan, and her husband Bill Dinn, thank you for all of your weekend get togethers and for keeping Kevin’s card playing skills up to par. To Betty Hastings, his niece who also visited often and kept his mind sharp with her questions about the past. Over the years, Kevin has shared a wealth of knowledge with you. A special mention to his home care worker, Michelle Ryan, who brought so much comfort and care to Kevin; he thoroughly enjoyed your care and company over the past year. Special thank you to the 6th floor staff at the Carbonear General Hospital for making his last days as comfortable as possible. Visitation hours at CoombS Funeral Home, Placentia are as follows: Thursday Sept 5th – 7pm to 9pm Friday Sept 6th – 2pm to 9pm Funeral mass will take place at St Patrick’s Church in Patrick’s Cove on Saturday Sept 7th at 1:00.
