Obituary of Freeman Brooks

Please share a memory of Freeman to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Freeman Brooks of Placentia. Passed peacefully away at Carbonear General Hospital on Tuesday, January 14th, 2025. Predeceased by his parents, Joe and Marie Brooks; his in-laws, Harold and Madonna Kearley, brother Wayne, infant grandson Daniel; his sisters-in-law, Theresa Brooks, and Maryann Sambell; his niece, Ann Marie Cleary and nephew, Wayne Brooks JR. He leaves to mourn, his wife and best friend of 33 years, Melinda; his children, Cathy (Mike), Rudy, Wendy (Jon), Ross (Sheri), Ron (Jolene), Vera, Adam (Amanda), and Kassandra. He also leaves his brothers and sisters, Bob (Rose), Art, Gerard, Hubert, Sandra (Jim), Florence (Pat); 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, his aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; his second family, especially Sam (Glenda) Kearley, Susan( Susie)(Leo) Quilty, and the rest of the Kearley family. Freeman was a simple and easy going man. He was not one for the flashy things. He loved his game of darts at the Star Hall on Thursdays with the Seniors. A lot of laughs , and a few light-hearted insults.(They could all give as good as they got, so to speak.) He looked forward to his Saturday night dances, especially at the Star. Always on the floor, and the last to leave. He would always say "we shut 'er down tonight". His shed was his getaway. He spent hours out there, most of the time doing nothing at all, with the music blasting. He was always up for a chat, especially with his neighbours, Gerald and Bobby. He met so many people during his time driving the taxi here. And remembered each one. He gave so much love from his heart, and received so much back. He was always worried about the other person. He had to fight for everything his entire life. Thank you to Doctors and Staff of Placentia Hospital and to Carbonear ICU. for the kindness and professionalism and care shown to Freeman and all the family. Although your illness was short you fought right to the end. Your fight is over now; you can finally be at rest. Visitation to take place at Coombs Funeral Home on Thursday, January 16th from 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. and on Friday, January 17th from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. with a small service to follow in Coombs Memorial Chapel, Placentia. In lieu of flowers, donations to the family, would be gratefully appreciated. Cremation to follow with a Celebration of Life to take place at a later date.
