I will miss running into Mrs. Tessie when she came into Placentia. She would always be dressed to the finest. And she would always praise me for my column in the Charter. She had a long life . . . lots of water under the bridge. Marina (and Pat)

Dear Gordon & the Careen Family was so sadden to hear of Mrs. Tessie's passing. She was a strong & courageous lady. Although she fought alot of battles in the last few years, she never complained. They only thing she would say is " O Honey". It was an honor to have known a lady as fine as she was. Take comfort in knowing that as a family you did everything in your power to make her life as comfortable as possible. My thoughts & prayers are with you all. Eleanor

Although im not home to say my goodbyes and be with my family right now, id like to do it the next best way!
Mrs. tess , she was my great nanny and one of the best.. I was always told Im probably gunna get some strange looks down home and be asked more than once about myself, as i was and giggle at everytime i think about it... Im probly one of nannys heaviest tattooed and pierced (great) grandchildren out there.. i get alot of odd looks from alot of people, but not from nanny... everytime id walk through her door n go to kiss her in the rocking chair shed always take another look and say "oh bless your heart, lemmy look at those" shed ask me what all the tattoos ment and where else i had em and if she could look at them (at one point almost haulin my shirt off my back to look at what i had there), and she did the same with my piercings ...reaching up to touch my lip rings to see if they went all the way through and figuring it all out.. but never for a second judging, or saying a bad word about them.. she was the most accepting and loving great grandmother i could have asked for.. from the tattoos to bringing home jellyfish from the beach to show her what i found (although that did freak her out a little bit haha) straight down to our talks over the phone from across the miles.. she always just wanted to know how things were and have a chat... and ill miss our chats, and ill miss her! Shes by far the coolest 91 year old women ive ever had the pleasure to meet and she will be greatly missed by us all and loved even more!

Miss Tessie was a source of many precious memories for me.......
Here are just a few.
One Christmas we took her for a drive around St. John's and Mount Pearl to look at Christmas lights. I saw the face of a child in a woman almost ninety as she marvelled at what she was seeing. And we saw that look on her face this past Christmas as we did it in Point Lance and Branch, unbeknownst to us for the last time. I'll Miss that Miss Tessie.
Every time we went to Point Lance on a Sunday, there was always a cooked dinner and especially a delicious pudding that no one could ever copy. Indeed the whole meal had a wonderful taste to it that no one seemed to be able to copy.I'll miss those Miss Tessie.
I'll miss those times I walked you to church on Sunday morning.
I'll miss those chats we had when Theresa was out visiting and it was just the two of us.
I'll miss cooking for you.
I'll miss those Sunday afternoons 'out home' when you held 'audiences' for all and sundry who came to visit. I think there were Sundays when you had more traffic through your home than our Blessed Holy Father at the Vatican.
Most of all, I'll just miss you being there as a part of our lives.

To Aloyisus and family. We were blessed to have many wonderful visits with Mrs.Tessie at your place in Point Lance. The minute we would land, she would stroll down across the meadow to welcome us home. Over the years it is amazing how she stayed so strong and clear, even remembering the boys names when we called her. Although she loved everyone, we were just reminiscing about how she would affectionately say, "Oh Aloyisus honey," when sharing stories from years gone by. Know that our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time. Remember, Mrs. Tessie always stuck to her guns and she glowed with an obvious pride for her family. She will be remembered as a great woman; a person of strength.

Our sympathy and prayers are with you all. The heavenly gates have once again opened to welcome your mom, freeing her from pain and suffering. This special lady was loved by so many, including us. On our many trips home we looked forward to a visit and chat with Mrs. Tessie. Our sister Nellie had a special close relationship whereby she visited at least twice daily and phoned when out of town. That tresured relationship will be sadly missed and never forgotten. We pray that your fond memories of her and the knowledge of her great love and kindness towards others will ease your pain at this sad time. May she now and forever rest in peace. Eileen & John

Let me tell you about one feisty little woman. Not so long ago, at the Point Lance Hall opening, my grandmother said to me, "now Gail, when they play Muscles in the Corner come get me to dance". I thought at first perhaps she was just joking, after all, being 91 years of age and having gone through radiation in recent months, I thought surely, she can't really be serious. But anyhow, true to form Mr Fynn did indeed play Muscles in the Corner, and I crossed the dance floor as requested by this "feisty" woman and asked her to dance. And dance she did! It was only a few minutes on the dance floor, but a memory I will cherish my life time. My grandmother's last dance was at the new hall in a community she loved and was with me, a granddaugher who thought she was queen of the ball that night.
