Betty and Barthly were my godparents. They treated us as heir own. They were among the first adults I remember when they lived with us on Viking Crescent while they were waiting for a house in Labrador City.
I have only the best memories of Betty; of Uncle Barthly, and of you, Paul. When we stopped by your house in Placentia whether to stay for a couple of days, or just on our way out to the shore, we were happy to get there, and sorry to leave.
I've waited too long to offer my deepest condolences for the loss of your mother. Our Aunt. I really don't believe that anything I write will be adequate to explain how I felt (feel) about you and your parents.
RIP, Aunt Betty.

Dear Paul and family,
David and I are deeply sorry for your loss. Aunt Betty was such a fun loving woman. I remember many a time where I would come home from school, only to see mom and your mom chit chatting and having a laugh. I hope the memories you hold near and dear to your heart will help you through this difficult time.

I will always remember Aunt Betty with lots of love. She was like a second mother when I was in university. Rob and I were remembering her trip to visit us in the Netherlands. Laughing remembering the baseball hat she bought in Amsterdam “good girls go to heaven, bad girls go to Amsterdam”. I am grateful we could give a little bit back to her by showing her the Netherlands, for everything she gave to us. ❤️

Dear Paul and your family! Aunt Betty was in my life from the time I was a baby. She and Uncle Barthly would come to our house in Ship Cove! They were so much fun. Uncle Barthly would tickle Aunt Betty to make us laugh and she would be screaming at him to stop while her laughter could be heard throughout the Cove.
When I had Colin she babysat for us! Oh my! She was so good to him. We rented their duplex and he just had to walk through the adjoining door. Even after babysitting all day, she would open the door between us so he could visit. She would even order clothes for him for me because she knew better than I what he needed.
Our Aunt Betty was a treasure and her beautiful kind heart will never be forgotten.
May you rest in peace sweet aunt! You deserve your wings.
Much love,
Mary & Doug Pyne

Paul and family; Betty was a delight; our family trips to Placentia to visit your family were a real highlight that everyone in our family treasured; throughout our growing years, you were all so very good to us.
Your parents sure loved to entertain. It seemed like Betty could put together the most delicious dinners, on no notice whatsoever; She sure didn’t sit still long, unless it was with her little poodle at her side and her knitting in her hands; she delighted in industry and creativity, and always seemed to remember to go to mass on Saturday night.
It seemed to the five of us little girls, that she sure understood little girls, and always had lots of great ideas for things to do and see. She had so many stories. She knew about so many things in life, that seemed so exotic to us, like the Canary Islands, and giant mollusks.
She even knit a sweater in a hue of warm pink and gave it to me, that actually looked nice on a little girl with red hair. I wore that sweater till the sleeves were up to the elbows.
Her green thumb was legendary, and she had an entire tabletop garden in front of her kitchen window that seemed like the flowers were always in blossom whenever we came to visit.
She even had a way with critters. Her little French poodle, Jeannie, would sit up to the breakfast table with her in the morning, in the chair next to Betty‘s, while they had breakfast. It was remarkable. Betty would share her morning cuppa with Jeannie in the mornings: she would have hers out of the cup, and Jeanne would have her portion out of the matching saucer, while sitting up at the table at breakfast. Nobody knew how to train dogs quite like your parents did.
It seemed that your parents were always thinking. They were always finding new ways to do things, and make things easier for other people, like that chair that they built in the backyard, so that your grandparents could sit out there in the sunshine, seated side-by-side, but each able to face the other because of the way the chair was oriented, so that they could have a conversation and be able to hear each other or anyone else with whom either one of them sat down with in that chair, through that amplifying cone, even though they couldn’t necessarily hear very well anymore. There wasn’t much they couldn’t figure out or accomplish together.
Nothing was more important than her family and her friends and her relationship with her creator.
Hers was a life of great accomplishment, and she was a blessing to everyone whose life she touched.
The time our family got to spend with yours was a great blessing indeed, and while I hope she’s enjoying a wonderful catch-up with those who have gone on before, my grateful heart is broken; I wish with all my heart that there was something to be offered to mitigate even a little of the pain of losing her.

Aunt Betty was not only the best Aunt but she was like a second Mother to me. She looked after me when I was in university and welcomed my hubby and I in her home when we moved home and were looking to buy our first house. She could always take the cheapest cut of meat and make it taste like fillet! She loved our son, Aaron, like he was one of her own Grandchildren. She truly was a shining example of how we should live and love. We will miss her and keep her beautiful memory alive.
